My high schooler has finals this week and next. The last week of school is a day off and then a couple of fun days -- a cookout and something else.

My kid advised last night that their teachers that they were stopping new assignments by today, to ensure kids could turn them in by next week. As I think about it, teachers have to plan not just for their ability to grade any assignment or test, but also having to arrange for a kid to make up work that they miss due to illness during the final days of school. I think rather than negotiate with families to come in during the summer, they might just find it easier to stop giving assignments a week before school ends to avoid that possibility.

Curious what DCPS school has (high school) finals. My kid is in 10th grade and has not had a final yet (none this year).

At JR, it’s up to the teacher whether to give one. My kid has at least one next week.

Which is the next business day after June 18. “End the school year by making all your teachers spend the holiday weekend grading” is not a plan.

OP here - from looking at Aspen, there are assignments posted through Friday, June 12, and then nothing after that.

Yes, all assignments are due in before then anyway. My 10th grader will probably skip for the hell of it.

Does anyone have experience with what happens with 9th graders during the last three days of high school in DCPS? This year, DCS has its final school days scheduled on Monday, June 15, Wednesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 18. Does anyone who has had kids go through DCPS school think there will be any can't-miss instruction during that time? We are have some family commitments which could be helped if our 9th grader could skip those last three days.
