Jesuit colleges, like GU, look very favorably on graduates of Jesuit high schools. Applicants from these high schools aren’t guaranteed admission, but they are definitely favored.

OP here again: I was an international student who attended an American high school in the UAE so my experience of getting into college/Georgetown is very different and not typical of an American student.

No, he is not in public high school; he is only in middle school now so I'm planning ahead. My question was why send him to a Jesuit private high school vs. him attending our local public HS in Fairfax county. Does attending a Jesuit high school improve chances of attending better universities like Georgetown? Or would he have a similar chance if he did well in public HS.

OP, are you trying to boost your son’s chances of admission to Georgetown University by having him transfer from Ffx public to a Jesuit HS?

It really depends on the school. From Arlington it's very hard.

Oh I now see he might already be in HS. I actually think there is oddly an easier admission for sophomore/junior year since kids obviously leave and there isn’t a lot of kids willing to move HS.

I had family start GZ sophomore year from PG public and it was basically a phone call and an interview in the summer. (Though they had a bit of a compelling story and other family was already there)

For Prep you would need to take the SSAT, not the HSPT.

Admission to both Gonzaga and GP are very competitive. It does help to attend a Catholic MS. Search for older threads and you will find a lot of information.

St. John’s is not Jesuit.

Going to a Catholic middle school does help.

Going to mater dei guarantees admission to one. The others don’t guarantee admissions though it increases you chances.

The Heights, Woods and St Anselm’s have better admissions chances.

Being an athlete increases your chance.

I am a Georgetown alum and would like my son to attend one of the Jesuit boys high schools in the area (Georgetown Prep, St. John’s, Gonzaga …)

Is there a big difference in admissions if my son attended our local fairfax county high school and did well academically. He’s been a straight A student but wondering what difference would it make for him to attend a private school? Any thoughts would be welcome! Please no negative comments.
