St Ignatius also has an excellent school, and I think parishioners get some priority.

I mean, Manhattan Catholic parishes, for the most part, lean more liberal. From what I know, both St. Thomas Moore and St Ignatius both are exactly that...into social justice and that kind of thing. It's really more of a vibes thing. They're very different physical spaces, and who they attract reflect that. Growing up, the richest Catholics on the UES went to St. Ignatius, but it wasn't as if St. Thomas Moore was hurting (I grew up going to St. Stephen of Hungary--very different). I would suggest visiting and looking at the congregation. I live downtown and I can say that the number of young professionals at our services are at an all-time high--easily 3 times higher than when I was in my late 20s looking to find a parish and get married. It's pretty wild to see as a 40-something with a child and young adult who grew up going to mass with mostly old people.

just googled and St Ignatius is jesuit and can probably conclude that it's less conservative

Any insights into either of these parishes? We've just moved back to NYC but haven't been parishioners anywhere since living at home in VA 10 years ago. Looking for initially a place to become parishioners and to get married.
