Like a lot of people I’m very utilitarian about my car. It’s not a work of art, it’s a real vehicle that gets driven around a dense area with street parking and parking garages.

Personally I manage to maneuver without tapping other cars, but it’s nbd to me if I get some scratches on my bumper and I can’t imagine people taking time out of their day to contact strangers over minor cosmetic damage.

Not a bumper scrape but someone dented my parked car. They left and note and a number. We texted about it. They ended up paying me back directly after I shared quotes with documentation, instead of making an insurance claim. I get that most people are not this honest anymore.

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. We take good care of our vehicles and just purchased a new vehicle for the kids that will be parked on the street. I’d be upset if it were damaged. Is your street very narrow? Are you in the city? I ask because our suburban neighborhood doesn’t have a recurring problem with cars being hit.

Absolutely yes

I saw someone hit a car on it's passenger side leaving significant damage to the side of the car. The driver sat in the car for a long time - I assumed they were waiting for the owner of the car to come out of the store and back to the car. The owner came back went to the drivers side and didn't see that the other side was hit. They drove away, not knowing. Then the driver at fault left without a word. Was that leaving the scene of an accident?

Another daily example of the low trust society we now live in.

OP here. Should have been more specific… not just bumper damage. Damage to side of car. Not from parallel parking unless someone really doesn’t know what they are doing

Once when I was a teen I hit a parked car in a parking lot. I called home to ask what to do. They asked if there was any damage, I said no, so they said to just come home. If there was damage, obviously I'd have stayed to exchange info.

I know some people are taught to parallel park with the "bump and go" method which involves bumping the cars in front of/behind them.

Normal. People are trash these days

I just got a new car and it has already been hit twice while parked on the street. Minor damage, sure, but it has caused me to start looking around and noticing that basically every car I see has similar damage.

This just makes me wonder - how common is it that people just hit parked cars and drive off? Personally, i have never done this, but it seems that I must be in the minority? Taking advantage of an anonymous forum to ask: What are other people’s experiences? Have you hit cars and just moved on without a note or anything? Has your car been damaged while parked? Is this just normal?
