To clarify, for fall 2024 freshmen, 30% submitted SAT, 15% submitted ACT.

My DC was accepted BU.
Applied TO as SAT was only 1430 and we were coached not to submit since math score was below 25th percentile. My child had weighted GPA of ~4.1. School does not rank - but my guess would be top 20% of class.
ECs were average - things like member of yearbook. Decent service experiences and volunteer effort that connected to major.
Very targeted BU specific essay AND full pay.

For classmates going to BC this year - service was a common thread. And service - not volunteering. Difference I am getting at - going to an event for an hour or 2 is volunteering. Leaning in and having it be more than another item - making a connection and having it be something that you can really talk about.

BU gets about 80,000 apps a year, which is really high. Overall acceptance rate is about 10 percent. But Regular Decision is about 5 percent.

It's a pretty competitive school these days. Not Duke level, but not an easy admit either. And BU will be mindful of yield. It might be a safety for some, but definitely not most.

What do you mean by "decent SAT score"? (And an actual number for GPA is more helpful than "mostly As.")

2,998 scored below a 1510. 270 scored 1510 or above, or only 8%.

Charitably, if you stated half of the ACT submitters had a concordant score (which they don't) you can easily see the lie in the AO's presentation.

I think they have a better chance if they apply ED. Otherwise, you never really know.
There are just so many students competing for the same spots.

I have two kids with similar stats and rigorous course loads who applied through BU RD in different years and requested financial aid.
One got in and is thriving there, while the other was rejected, which was quite surprising.

Nothing extraordinary needed as far as ECs. Good grades and ED (full pay) will be enough, a solid SAT would just be icing on the cake.

Avoid RD if you can as half the class fills ED so RD is used for ‘institutional priorities’.

The vast majority of students have below 1500 SATs at both colleges.

They also both heavily rely on ED. Boston Univ also will allow you to have alternative admission.

Full pay is key at both.

Both are easy with ED and full pay.
