I only have my personal experience to go by, but for me (46, F) it wasn't so much the way I felt after a drink, it was more my bloodwork gets questionable if I drink even lightly. Triglycerides and liver enzymes. Of course, much of that is diet related (working on it) but I've realized personally I really can't drink anymore. That's been doable but still a bummer in some social situations. Oh, well.

51, in menopause, no issues with alcohol. Didn't have any in perimenopause either.

I’m on HRT and still have a similar reaction to alcohol that started with peri. If I have more than one beer or week cocktail after noon then I wake up in the middle of the night with night sweats and also usually have trouble getting to sleep.

I’m similar. I’ll very occasionally have a glass anyway, but it’s only worth it if I’m not working the next day and it’s a unique cocktail I’ve never had before. Otherwise I don’t drink.

Similar. I can usually handle one drink or maybe two. Anything more and I’m waking up at 3 sweaty with anxiety.

Same! 46 and it’s been a few years for me

I started to get horrible hangovers at 40. I’m 51 now and cannot drink. I do miss it from time to time but remind myself that it’s healthier to abstain and it’s simply not worth the incurable headache the next day.

Started for me in my early 40’s and only got worse. 62 now.

Same happened to me. I just cannot drink anymore. Not even one. I will get night sweats and be moody and anxious the entire next day. Not worth it. Sorry!

Are you on GLP-1 by chance?

Am I doomed to never drink again? I’m 47, so I assume I’m in peri? No real symptoms that I’m aware of (I still have an IUD and no period). But in the last few months my body won’t let me drink. I’m not a giant drinker even though I enjoy it - not worth the calories to me when I’m already fighting with my weight. But one beer at a bbq last weekend left me up all night with night sweats. And 2 not very strong cocktails last night left me up all night sweating.

Is that what’s going on here? Is it time for hormones? Will this phase pass or is this a forever thing now?
