My friend's daughter went there and loved it. Very academic culture + arts. She just graduated and is going to Harvard for grad school.

DC was accepted there this year (although chose to go elsewhere) -- all our interactions with the college were exceedingly wonderful -- they were so warm and welcoming, and really went out of their way to make DC feel excited about coming there. A professor from a discipline DC indicated as an area of interest personally reached out, which was such a nice touch.

Yes, all my fellow Muhlenberg alums who went into medicine still feel inadequate because they didn’t go to Lehigh.

Sarcasm aside, you’re not comparing apples to apples with those two schools.

I was impressed with the supports and overall sense of warmth and welcome on campus when we visited Muhlenberg last year. We went to an info session with students and professors who were very engaged with prospective students and families. Seemed like a very caring community! Each student at Muhlenberg gets matched with three advisors (student services, academic, career services). Seems like a great environment for kids who need more scaffolding.

My student ended up not applying to Muhlenberg because the campus seemed a bit too quiet and she didn’t care too much for the surrounding area (Allentown was rather dull with not much going on).

No one takes High Point seriously. Muhlenberg has a decent reputation. High Point is obviously more luxurious if that is what you are looking for. And might be better for a kid with greater needs.

I know a very similar boy who went there and had a good experience. Very bright, high test scores, very up and down grades at a very competitive school. Needed some supports.

Older info because we visited with my kid who just graduated, but I was really impressed. Similar scenario because kid had ADHD and needed a smaller supportive environment. She was accepted with merit but didn’t end up going - chose another similar mid-Atlantic LAC - but I would have been very happy if she had gone there. And I’m from a family with many people who went to Lehigh - not sure why that’s relevant at all, weird PP.

Had a relative go there and had a good experience

My kid with similar profile went to High School at McLean School in Potomac. Muhlenburg is a school where they often place their graduates with great success.

We visited over spring break with my dyslexic DC. The people were universally so nice. Somewhere we’d read a description that Muhlenberg was like a golden retriever, and DC absolutely agreed with that description. The support services seem very strong (obviously they could commit to anything specific, but we were able to talk to an admin about the kinds of supports and accommodations generally available). The campus is a bit small and DC would prefer a little bigger so it’s a few spots down on DC’s personal ranking just for that reason, but it seems like a lovely and supportive school.

DC is considering this school. She has ADHD and executive functioning challenges, and it seems supportive. She is also bright and has a high SAT score and 8 AP's, so we want to make sure she's somewhere with a real academic culture. But she truly needs support and to not be overwhelmed, especially the first year.
