How are they pretending to be poor? Why are you asking them questions about their money to cause them to be “cagey”?

It's just how some people grow up. In my family and community you did not flaunt wealth or discuss money (you didn't "pretend to poor" either, but I suspect this is not what you are seeing).

This is not complicated.

I pay more taxes than you, and donate more to charitable organizations. Why do you think you should be a recipient of my charity? Give me a good reason or stop whining.

Yes, they are good with $. They live by the rule "every penny saved is a penny earned"!

They are stingy, they don't offer to pay almost all the time but they will once in a very long time so you don't catch on! You know who you are~

It is longstanding UMC to rich value that you a) don't talk about money OUTSIDE THE FAMILY b) don't count other people's money but you sure as hell c) talk about money inside the family, teach your children about it, and teach them a and b above. A.so there is c), rich people live in fear of lawsuits so they are cagey about looking like a target.

We are wealthy but try best the ve kind and generous, particularly to those lower on the SE scale. Most people have a good idea who may be rich. Poor people not idiots.

That's not my experience. Maybe you're right, but you could also be hyperaware of when rich people are jerks, but not notice as much when other people are jerks.

My net worth has nothing to do with it. Unless I agree I'm treating everyone for lunch/dinner I expect you to pay your portion. Just like I Venmo whomever paid when I'm out

Some of them are rich because they are good at managing their finances and not wasting money.

Some rich people are hypersensitive that their friends are taking advantage of their wealth. They want to pay their costs and no one else. They want to know that their friendships are real and not transactional.

Most rich people are generous.
