I wish the OP had taken pictures of all the mothers and their dress choices. Then, we could really be judgmental 😀

An influencer or two posts a white dress and every girl in the country thinks she has to follow like the trashy little sheep that she is.

My DD's university had someone helping all the grads adjust their regalia, etc. right before they walked on stage. No one had an open robe.

DD said the school suggested white dresses. I didn’t see any open robes.

If they closed the robe, how would we see their slutty dresses? They clearly need the recognition for their bodies- graduating HS/ college isn't enough.

I've got zero problem with a cute figure flattering dress, to wear for your pre and post ceremony pics, and whatever celebratory dinners and parties.

But... the moment your name is called and you are crossing the stage to shake professors' hands... is supposed to be a moment to acknowledge your academic achievement, and the honor is that you have earned the right to wear that black graduation gown.

Rant over.
Come at me, DCUM, and tell me what a grumpy square I'm being!

You can't possibly be serious, OP. The vast majority of female grads wear white dresses. No, it's not mandatory, but it is certainly tradition. So are you mad about the white dresses or the fact that the gowns are open, displaying said white dresses? Either way - very, very weird.

I think it’s pretty obvious from the post that she thinks it’s sloppy the gowns are left open and not that she’s mad about the white dresses.

I didn’t walk in my college graduation bc I needed an extra semester so graduated in winter. And I could’ve walked that following spring but I didn’t. I had already moved to the city for work and it was just a whole thing.

But my high school graduation they were very strict and someone came around to check our robes were closed and our tassels were off to the correct side before we walked outside to the ceremony.

I'm the opposite. I've never seen one with open gowns, including 3 of my own.

This. I am kind of shocked an adult in the US did not know graduation robes closed. I have only ever seen them closed.

Oh. I thought this thread was going to be about fashion for attendees. There are probably very few graduates posting looking for advice.
