Enjoy Gonzaga ---it is a special place. My DS is now a rising college senior. I look back on his Gonzaga years with joy in my heart. Yes --- I was also slightly annoyed the GMC lunch being on a workday -- I took a half day off work, never looked back. I met some wonderful people. One Mom is now a close friend and we've supported each other through it all. The Gala the big event and never our thing. I attended monthly meetings a few times a year to remain connected and volunteered when I could.

Yes a lunch should really be held at after work hours.

I remember the event being during the work day when my son, now in college, was an incoming freshman. That really turned me off. I can’t just take off in the middle of the day for a mother’s luncheon.

It’s fine - no need to buy something new. It’s a really fun event and a great way to meet some new moms. Enjoy and welcome to Gonzaga!

You don’t have to wear purple. I certainly didn’t for my first luncheon. I would echo what others have said though- it is a very nice event and you will meet other mothers/guardians. I loved the GMC - it was a wonderful group of women who did amazing things for the school.
You can get as involved as you have time and interest allows throughout your son’s time at the school.

I have a DS at Gonzaga and another starting this fall. I loved the welcome lunch for my older DS and look forward to attending the one for my younger DS. As a PP said, about 10 moms are at a table and there are a few speakers and time to chat with other moms. I knew maybe six moms in my older DS’s class before he started. I was friendly with all of them and good friends with two of them. I sat at a table with one of my friends but spent most of the time chatting with moms I hadn’t met before. Everyone was very friendly and I would have felt comfortable had I not known anyone. A number of the moms do wear purple but it’s 100% not necessary.

In general, the Mother’s Club is very active and hosts a bunch of events throughout the year. They have lots of volunteers, but there is no pressure to volunteer and (if you want) you can pick a few things without making a significant time commitment. For example, they’ll have a sign up to help decorate the school before the gala. It goes out to all of the parents and anyone who wants to sign up to help for an hours or two (or more) can. It can be a good way to meet people.

AWESOME! I was skeptical at first that it would be too old school or old fashioned. I am super involved in it now and the woman in GMC are smart, accomplished, professional women who get a TON done for the school. It is a powerful and impressive group. Get involved, you won’t be sorry!

The welcome lunch is a lovely introduction to the school. You’ll be seated with other mothers/caregivers in tables of 10 and current moms of older kids will greet you and then serve lunch to you. Lots of moms know each other because of their older kids going through the program BUT everyone was so kind, warm and welcoming. I did not feel uncomfortable knowing no one and left with at least five new mom friends’ cell numbers. You’ll hear speeches from different important members of staff and also the upcoming student body president. I learned lots of ways to serve the community - there are a million ways to be involved at Gonzaga and it seems like they mindfully make an attempt to meet people where they are in regard to volunteer opportunities.
