We are at a Title 1 and pay between 25-40 per field trip. We don’t pay for anything else at the school including aftercare, lunch, snacks, extended day classes, etc. so it’s really not a problem for us.

$25-30 and about 3-4 field trips a year. No big deal.

The other has an annual suggested fee that covers field trips + field day - I think it is $125 total? Nothing happens if you do not pay and they only bring it up a couple of times at the start of the year. They are more likely to take school/chartered buses but it is also a less metro-accessible school.

Does your school ask for large PTA donations? Just curious because we are in the NE but our NW friends donate a ton to PTA which is not expected at our school. They also don’t pay a lot for field trips.

At our charter they will sometimes fundraise around field trips, but it’s never pay to play and they don’t track who gives.

IIRC, the only field trip I paid for during our years at a Title 1 DCPS was the 8th grade graduation trip to Six Flags (RIP), which was included in the 8th grade dues that covered graduation, yearbook, etc. The overnight camping trips, college tours, museum trips, etc, were all covered by the school and/or grants (for all participants).

DCPS always helps families in need, charters are individual schools so they do not have to make costs equitable -though I am sure some do so regardless.

our charter school offers a variety of middle school field trips that range from totally free (traveling to no-cost destinations that are in walking or public transit distance) to $7 - $25 or even several hundred for overnight trips.

How does this compare to other schools? (note there is some mechanism that allows families who cannot afford to have their costs covered, but I'm not read into what that looks like) We can pay these fees but it does feel like a lot adding up at once with also being asked to provide class snacks, volunteer at these trips and field days, etc. We aren't at any other schools so I can't compare to other experiences. thx
