I like to see a story (ie not a post) every once in a while of a tourney win or a good play from friends and family and would be interested in an academic accomplishment too, but it doesn’t transfer to social media as well. What are you posting - the honor roll certificate? Maybe if it was a cool science project or art or a picture of the kid receiving the award with the principal.

If my kid wins an academic competition, I sometimes share it.

For both versions, I feel like it depends on how you do it. In my mind, if I'm posting it on social media, it needs to be interesting to a random person who sees it (unless you are private, which I am not). So if you have an interesting way that you taught little Bobby to throw faster that really clicked or you created a fun new tradition to celebrate those straight A's, that is something a random person can say "Oh cool, maybe I'll give that a try". Otherwise, it is fine to brag once in a while because it's your space on the internet do what ya want, but just know you are bragging and if you do it too much people are gonna start interpreting it in a way you may not like.... could be one time, could be the 15th time depending on the person looking.

I understand your point, OP. I'm not exactly sure why we've normalized advertising specifics about athletic accomplishments, or artistic accomplishments, but not academic accomplishments. Perhaps it's because athletic accomplishments are more objective - of course, there are times when a kid isn't chosen for a team (Michael Jordan's sophomore year of high school) and goes on to make massive improvements, but generally speaking athletics are an objective measure of success so maybe that's why we're more comfortable posting them. Intelligence comes in many forms and schools measure a narrow range of them, so maybe that's part of our reluctance to share academic achievement.

Whatever the case, the people closest to you can give you a reality check about whether your posts are celebratory or braggy. There's a fine line and it's at least somewhat subjective.

Sorry you have to insult children to feel good about yourself.

I feel fine about myself. But you obviously don't feel good about something, either you or your kid, or you wouldn't have started this thread.

I didn’t start the thread. I just like to call out adults who insult children so they feel fine.

You seem disdainful of little Bobby’s parents so why would you want to be like them?

This.

Unless you're my SIL. The extended family texts about her children's excellence at being satisfactory humans are beyond exhausting.

Both lame. Why seek external validation. Tell Bobby you are proud of him and keep the rest private.

And even your close family is a little on the fence about caring.

Now where did I put my “all stars” window sticker?

Since so many parents post on social media how their little Bobby hit a double or “made” “all stars” in daddy-ball little league, is it ok to post my kids’ academic accomplishments at a rigorous private? Or is that tacky or less impressive than sports?
