Also you should know that UMD admits major blind. So certainly possible they could be admitted but not for engineering and transfer into something else later.

I'm not sure how many try to switch, but there is a pathway for internal transfer:

My son has a friend who was rejected for UMD (in-state), completed engineering classes at MC for one year, and will start at UMD-CP in engineering for his sophmore year.

They are admitted to the school first, then to Limited Enrollment Programs. So you definitely can get admitted to UMD but not auto admitted to an LEP.

DC is a current junior in Montgomery County. For those that applied to UMD, if your student applies to Engineering school and is rejected, are they then automatically considered for admission to Letters snd Sciences? Do a lot of kids try to switch into engineering after first year and is there a place to see these numbers/success rates? DC is not sure yet if they want to commit to engineering or another science (non engineering).
