AI will be transformational, but not in the way people expect. Data centers will have been built but will be unneeded, and massive capital will have been wasted. Big tech, hedge funds, and banks will suffer huge losses from pouring too much money into AI.

I agree that working directly with humans is more AI proof than other jobs.

Supporting that work, or directly working as a coach, physical therapist, doctor, carer, educator of young children.

Even if areas like education go through massive change, the youngest children will still need human comfort. That and aging populations.

If there are massive disruptions that leave a huge number of white-collar workers unemployed, that's affecting everyone. Who is going to afford your services? Also, there will be new entrants into your field.

The best-looking field for "AI proof" is the military. Limited lateral entry means if you're already in, there's not much of new entrants issue. And at the point where the whole "affording your services" issue becomes a problem, so many other things will have broken already.

Seriously? Managing the robot housekeeper would be at least as bad. Most people can't even get their robot vacuums to run without human help in placement and getting unstuck.

I am in an AI proof job. Sure, there are some aspects that eventually AI could do, but the technology isn't anywhere close to it yet. I totally get what you're saying OP. I wonder about the world my kids will exist in when they are my age. At the moment, they are both seeking careers that will always need some human element. I have an ultimate AI proof job.
DH has what I think of as AI proof, but maybe not ultimately so (I don't see consumers as adopting it in his area)

The jobs we do without doxxing us is:

work with physical bodies, of children, of vulnerable adults, of pets, and in risky situations

No parent will hand over this work to a computer, NOR will they take the time or licensing to figure it out via a computer, NOR will it get easier overall to manage these issues via learning/ companies that aggregate our work.

Our jobs take dedicated time and knowledge, and applying that time and knowledge with the kids/pets/people we see.

I feel excited about this, I feel less worried. But what I do worry about, such as with Bernie Sanders video today, is knowing that not everyone has jobs like us. I feel "secure" but I don't feel secure as a person in society.

What do we do?
