+1. I am leaving a job after only three months after having to deal with such a person. I'm a grown a$$ woman and won't be bullied by some loser. BYE!

She either does the dirty work of the C suite or is someone's girlfriend.

^This is exactly why these people are kept around. C suite likes to keep their hands clean.

I have the same boss.

We have to leave. At some point it will become a big enough issue that the company is forced to act but that will take much longer than we want and life is short

Sounds similar to a manager in our organization (Fed Gov) although more infuriating because of poor communication than bullying personality. No advice for you. Just good luck.

It depends on the organization, but in my experience, that’s not true. HR deals with all personnel issues, including rudeness and behavior that leads to poor morale.

Many HR people act like OPs boss, so they DO NOT CARE.

Jump ship.

The higher ups like her. Just keep your head down and work and do your best to anticipate her needs. And shield your team as much as you can. But this strategy won’t work forever.

Does she have any positive traits?

Tough but fair is fine, but this sounds like my old boss who was a Machiavellian games player. She is not going to change. Somebody upstairs support her.

I work for a large organization and was recently asked to move over to lead a team in a different part of the company than where I have worked in for the past 14 years. It was a promotion and I knew the reputation of the person who oversees the function that would be my new boss was that she can be tough, but I have worked for tough bosses before.

Let’s just say she is much worse than imagined and I am now contemplating leaving the company because I don’t know how I will do this for a couple years.

She is very respected at the organization despite her reputation for being a bully, and since joining I found out several people in the role before me have left the team and company because of her. I have worked my way up at this company and really don’t want to leave, but HR has been useless for others and they won’t move/transfer me for at least 2 years (that’s the policy when you take a new role).

She is blunt, rude and condescending, gives very unclear direction and then is upset that we didn’t deliver exactly what she wanted, she is too hands-off/unavailable yet a micromanager at the same time about certain things and expects everything to be done in 30 seconds.

Any tips to survive this for a couple years and then hope to be able to move elsewhere in the company? Or do I just look to jump ship because it’s not worth it to take the abuse?

And no, highly unlikely she is going anywhere.
