I had my levels tested before going on HRT. They were really low. It was one piece of information used to decide whether to go on (in addition to symptoms, family history, etc.)

Fully in menopause. My levels without HRT were really low. My levels with HRT were unreliable and all over the place.

I think the rec is to go by symptoms.

But hormones swing wildly in perimenopause. I don’t see how drawing a level on something constantly fluctuating would be helpful to guide a static therapy

My doctor asked me if I wanted one. I asked why and she said she just mentions it because so many women want one even though for menopause and peri it’s not really necessary. She said it just makes some people feel better, but personally she can take it or leave it unless there is a solid reason for the test. She’s just “not against it.” I’ve never had the need to get one.

Why would you do this?

Is this a thing? Or do levels switch too much during day/day to day?

Has anyone in menopause had a doctor who ordered an estrogen hormone blood test? For either before HRT or to monitor? Or for any reason?
