Is there a commute?

I’d do north Potomac or Kentlands,

Definitely Kensington/Chevy Chase view area. There are some homes in your range. Lots of nice eateries with outdoor areas for families in the old town near the commuter rail station. Homes are attractive. Schools are top notch. The commuter rail stop in Kensington goes directly to downtown DC. And you'll be a short drive to the new Purple Line on Connecticut Ave. The Red line Metro is also close.

If you want your budget to go further, Rockville is perfectly fine. Richard Montgomery HS is very well regarded and similar to Wootton. I would advise against Silver Spring and Gaithersburg zoned schools

By a house that doesn’t need ton of work, have you considered a new townhouse? There’s a lot of new construction THs west of the pike.

For houses, there seems to be plenty west of 270 that is also in Rockville city limits (so feeding to RMHS rather than wootton) but they may need some work

For Potomac, you might have to search more. 1.2 can certainty get you a house zoned for Churchill but that will be the floor most likely. And the pull to do sports/activities for the kids is real

West of 270, W school or bust. Every other school sucks, and Silver Spring is a dump.

Old Farm/ Lux Manor (maybe North Farm) is re-zoned for Woodward HS. Real Estate posts are still listing houses in these neighborhoods going to WJ which will not be true. People are trying to sell their houses at inflated prices to unsuspecting buyers.

My neighborhood and the adjacent one offer houses in that range. We live in Fox Hills West and border Copenhaver. We are zoned to Cold Spring ES. We are currently zoned for Wootton HS but with the boundary change it will be Churchill HS. It’s a nice quiet neighborhood.

Potomac zoned to Churchill. Too much uncertainty going on with Wootton right now. You can also get a decent older house in Bethesda zoned to WJ ( Alta Vista, Old Farm, North Farm).

Budget is 1.2, curious where in Montgomery County you would target to prioritize good schools? We want 4 bedrooms and prefer a house that doesn’t need tons of work. We are finding we may need to go further out but we aren’t too familiar with Montgomery County. What are the best neighborhoods with good schools where we could get the most for our money?
