Are you talking about KEF where the OP will likely be landing? Or the domestic airport that's actually in Reykjavik? KEF is absolutely NOT like that. I was just there!

One of the weirdest things about Iceland is there are no McDonald's or Starbucks, but Sbarro and Dominoes are everywhere, along with a UK pizza chain. (You can buy Starbucks drinks in bottles at the Reykjavik Costco. Yes, there's a Costco).

I've never flown Iceland Air, BUT I flew Play Airlines (also Icelandic, and we transferred through the same airport). It was great, and even though it was budget, I felt like they treated all the passengers with respect and dignity. I felt safe flying with my children and transferring in the airport. I flew Icelandair in March to Barcelona. The first leg of the trip to Reykjavik was uncomfortable. I booked a window seat in hopes of seeing the Northern Lights but no luck. The seat was very cramped, and I am only 5’6 135 lbs so average size.
The second flight to Barcelona was fine. I am planning another trip to Europe later this summer and I hesitate to book through Icelandair because of the first flight.

Flew them in March to Iceland. There was a huge difference between the flight over and back. The plane back was way nicer. But even with that it was fine both ways.

I have flown Iceland Air to Scotland a few times. Meals were always excellent, many passengers were drunk and loud, the Reykjavik airport has great shopping, but the last time we flew it was very very chaotic trying to board.

I just flew with them over spring break to Iceland and it was fine. It was a bit too warm on the plane on the way over there but fine on the way back. If you want any food, you can order ahead of time or when they come around. They did come around offering water throughout the flight (including the overnight portion).

Just make sure it’s not your pilot’s last flight before retirement!!
Other than that, it’s as safe as any. Pleasant flight attendants. Comfortable seating.

I will be trying them out for the first time next month. I have read a lot about others’ experiences which range from just fine to not great.
I watched a few YouTube videos from other flyers. Those were helpful.
I am not really hard to please in that I sit in the back of the plane, I always make sure to have my own water and maybe a Cliff bar for an overnight flight, I have my own entertainment, and I have no expectations beyond arriving alive. I must be their ideal customer!
The positive thing I will share with you is that if you know what they offer and you know their rules, you’ll be fine. You’re probably getting a decent fare for a not-very-long flight. Enjoy your trip once you arrive!

It’s been 6 years or so for me, but I am flying them this summer with no concerns. Two different friends flew them in the last 12 months without issues.
They also don’t source much of their fuel from the Middle East so that’s a plus this year.

Anyone travel Iceland air recently. I’m a nervous traveller so would feel better if I hear positive experiences. I am unfamiliar with Iceland air but considering flying with them to Geneva and back this summer
