You'd be surprised - some of the "top" sororities at W&M had brand deals this year. A few of them take their social presence very seriously

Some mothers and alumni say it's "low key," and yes, it's low-key compared to Alabama, but William and Mary's recruitment is just like every other school. It's not stress-free and "easy."

One in five women drops out before bid day, so 20% are not leaving that process unscathed.

Look for a few things that tend to go with lower key greek life:

-spring rush instead of fall rush
-no live in houses
-lower percent of students participate

(Low number of students participating can go both ways though. If your student is on a hall or in a dorm and no one else is participating, they may not try it out when they would enjoy it.)

W&M Greek life is still low-key.

Any school where Greek life is 20% or less will be fine. W&M is approx. 30%.

Pitt. But the sororities are not where the good students are. They do provide sisterhood, Greek life participation, connections to frat parties. Frats are also lower key at Pitt.

Worth looking at since it generally falls into your parameters.

Maybe PSU because they had a wide variety of sororities but Pennsylvania doesn't have the Southern Living crowd.

Even MIT sisters are doing rump-shaking dance team routines these days...so expect groupthink everywhere.

I was in a sorority in college where it was much more relaxed and low-key (at W&M). I’m sure social media has added an element that we didn’t have to contend with back in the day.

Still, I’m wondering if there are schools similar to W&M where Greek life is less intense and not as toxic. One of my daughters is interested but she’s also a sensitive kid who would enjoy a sorority for the social and service aspect, and not as much for the competitiveness or overemphasis on status, image, etc.
