I don’t think it ever okay not to have a conversation about it, or at least try to.

For people who are work-from-home only and have no idea where the supervisor lives, is quitting by phone the equivalent of resigning in person?

It’s bad form to resign over email but if you’re leaving and don’t ever envision yourself returning, it won’t really impact you. They might offer you additional pay/benefits prior to you submitting an official resignation if you’re open to staying and talk it over with your boss.

It’s bad form but if you don’t care about burning bridges …

I had a guy just not show up and eventually resign over text.

Really should be done in person.

The only reason I can think of it would be OK to resign over email without a conversation is if you were unable to speak due to a medical reason.

You do it in person and follow up with your email (wider distribution, if you want). Doing it via email only is very unprofessional.

I scheduled my resignation email to send while I gave my resignation in person to my (very difficult, abusive) boss. I think this is the way to go where possible. Rip off the bandaid.

I don’t think it ever okay not to have a conversation about it, or at least try to.

My boss is overbearing but overall she is a well meaning person. In general though is there circumstances for which resigning online before talking to them in person, and thanking them for the opportunity in email, is the right way to go? To give supervisor time to process? Or always in person is way to go.
