wtf is the delivery fee for if not for paying the delivery people?

It’s an entire order of meat , produce , dairy products and dry goods that they separate into chilled goods (placed in my cooler) and dry goods. Never had any broken eggs, broken bottles or mishandled produce. They sent me a text the first order introducing themselves and asked me to let them know if I even had issues.

I happen to think it’s great to see a person taking pride in their work. And hope that answers your question, if there really was one.

I think this is what gets me. We started with them 10-15 years ago and weekly tipping just wasn’t a thing and it’s not clear to me why it suddenly did or whether it’s now expected or what. I hate these non transparent labor/pricing schemes.

They added this feature during/after Covid. We were all staying home and people kept asking to be able to trip the drivers who were out and about so we didn’t have to be. Sometimes I tip, sometimes the auto tip feature resets and I don’t notice. Right now I’m not using them that often because they switched me to a daytime route and no one is home if they show up after eight.

Exact same situation here. We've always tipped with a card at Christmas. Have not started tipping on the orders yet. Glad to see this thread.

I tip $5 for a small order. I think it’s fine if you don’t tip, it’s optional.

I default to $10. Our order is between $50-75 every other week.

We've used SMC for milk etc. for about 10 years now. For all this time, we did not regularly tip our delivery driver, but did put out a tip at the holidays that is like $50-100. With one of the recent platform updates, there is now a place to tip your driver as part of your order. (In addition to the delivery fee.) Is everyone doing this? What are your thoughts? I feel bad not tipping, on the other hand, this is already a slightly more expensive way to get our food, so with tipping, it just creeps up. I had kind of assumed that they pay their delivery people appropriately.
