Minimize your expectations. No reason to bring any emotion into this at all.

True. Only job I could land in the doge aftermath tho. It’s honest work and I actually like it believe it or not.

PP here. I have to manage my parents' caregivers and it's made me realize I have absolutely zero experience with low wage shift work. There's just all sorts of random dynamics and rules and codes I am not privy to AT ALL.

You might be over thinking it. They all believe they’re grossly underpaid so they want 1) do the minimum possible and 2) end the shift as early as possible or get overtime pay as much as possible. That’s it. It’s all about $ really.

New managers are often fussy and weird.

Just yes, boss them until you figure out their motives.

So I made a ‘rookie mistake’ (5 months in) last night and picked up an assignment that was not mine. Minutes into the shift boss pulled me out and spent a good 15 minutes ‘having a two way conversation’ with me to ‘hear what happened from all sides,’ but the message (I think) is as clear and simple as ‘do what I task you to do no more no less.’ Yeah I got that after the first 15 seconds! The coworker who didn’t do their job was in bigger trouble but what’s he trying to do unloading this nonsense on me for? The cynics in me wonder if he’s just using this opportunity to assert his new supervisorship, or maybe he’s so self-conscious about his new role that he wanted to make life miserable for the other guy who’s clearly superior in all aspects and much younger.

Any thoughts or inputs are highly appreciated! And HMD y’all!
