So many persistently sick people in the dorms including DC this year. I wont mention the flagship school but I have read/heard similar stories in many of the Southern flagships. Administration well aware of the problem but even with new dorm building schedule many of these moldy dorms remain in use for foreseeable future. I am surprised some ambulance chasing attorney has not instigated a class action suit on money paid for such dorm conditions.

UMD had/has this issue in the dorms.

Go to any University /r and search it for mold. It's a problem everywhere yoy. If your kid is persistently sick request a room change if possible.

Mold is a problem in many schools and non campus housing, all over the country. It seems really bad in Southern flagships where the dorm is say 50-60 yo (not uncommon) and has been "converted" to AC via window units. These dorms have super low air circulation with the window units essentially keeping the room a non stop circulation of mold spores!

Multiple kids at schools in the South — no widespread mold issues. Definitely a school specific problem, if it exists.

Well, my kid is at a northern ivy - rodents in dorms are not uncommon. Also mold complaints. Lots of outraged patents on school Facebook pages. Kids also report cockroaches, etc. But why is everyone so litigious. Good life experience for kids to problem-solve... particularly if these kids want to work/live in nyc, dc, Boston. Lots of older apartments and homes have these issues..

If there is visible mold, send your child bleach spray like Zep. Mold remediation companies are just using bleach and cutting out drywall if it gets too bad. For bathrooms and cinderblock walls there is no magic fix other than spraying with bleach.

Yeah air purifier, had their "mold remediation" person come check and clean blah blah blah. Do some google searches, not hard to find the flagship.

I stand corrected though as I see another Southern private is currently being sued over same issue....for 35 million! I knew some scummy attorneys would already be on the prowl.....

And the cockroaches are huge. They would rather call them by a different name, palmetto bugs

Which school? Haven't heard about this and I know a bunch of older kids at Auburn, Alabama, Vanderbilt and Tennessee. Did your child have an air purifier? My oldest has terrible allergies and it's a must especially with his lack of cleaning.
