My kids had their first round of braces by 8, so yes, make an appt for a consult.

Very fixable and most kids get braces these days anyway (and earlier than kids did in the past). Just ask your dentist at her next appt “I assume she will need braces. At what age should we consider an ortho consult? What is the norm these days?” And go from there. Even if the dentist says “not yet” there is no law against making an appt with an ortho anyway, if it sets your mind at ease or answers your questions about future timeline.
Really a non issue in this day & age, assuming you have the funds for braces.
And- obviously- don’t ever let your DD hear you talking about this. Other than in more clinical terms (when asking the provider questions). Especially the term “buck teeth”. You will give her a complex. All of her friends will likely have braces too. Not a big deal.

Did your daughter suck her thumb? That will do it, not necessarily a trait inherited from your SIL you can't stand.

It is the term though that explicitly describes an overbite.

Puck teeth are cool but they go away when you grow and get your adult teeth and orthodontic work.

It is extremely unkind to use the term you titled this thread with. I hope your child has not overheard you saying that.

She may have an underbite which is fixable if you're still young enough (I had the Herbst appliance, not sure if that is still the standard of care).
Whether it makes sense to start treatment easily really depends in what's causing the issue. You might start with asking your pediatric dentist.

Kids get braces earlier now. It won't be weird to go to the orthodontist.

She is probably going to get braces anyway so what are you waiting for? Go see an orthodontist.

Your dentist will tell you when she needs an ortho.

I'd start with your dentist. They can tell you if there are any problems with her bite or spacing and make the referral.

SIL has buck teeth and I fear my DD might be developing the same. She is 8yo. Schedule her for an orthodontist consult?
