I would understand the commentary more if you were sending a young woman to Texas, where she would essentially lose all of her rights.

I mean, the state of Texas and many Texans do indeed suck. Your kid is probably best off responding by pointing out he’s focused on the school, not the state, and it’s in Austin at least.

I had a weird interaction with someone who told me “your kid is too smart for that school” first my kid’s choice, which was the best fit for him for a million reasons. Um, okay, and no, that’s not true.

Texas, and Texas college towns, are two completely different worlds. There is nothing wrong with going to Texas colleges or Southern colleges. Rice, Vanderbilt, UT, Emory, UVA, all great colleges.

The only response when someone says where their kid is going to college is "Great!"

You might wanna talk to him about what would happen if his girlfriend gets pregnant in Texas.

These insults comes from insecurity and a need for validation. The truth is, where your kid goes to college does not matter to anyone but him. There is no guarantee that a T20 school name will bring success in life. Your kid will thrive at UT Austin because that’s a great fit for him. Once everyone is graduated from high school and off doing their own thing, no one cares if you’re at a name brand school.

This would be more of a sympathetic post if you told me, your kid was going to Alabama. But university of Texas…. The fact that you feel like you have to defend that makes me think that you are not in a good place yourself.

Are we talking about UT Austin I mean the one in Austin Texas. Wow. That's a fantastic college. And recruiting is exceptional esp in engineering and the sciences.

Avoid discussions regarding college with people Who aren’t going to be supportive. There are people like that everywhere and everyone’s choice of college will be insulted at some point. Dont take it personally. It’s annoying but there’s a whole world of bigger issues out there. Congrats to your kid on UT!

I got rejected by UT Austin as an international student 20 years ago lol. It was my dream college. I ended up going to Stony Brook.

Now your child's friend was not raised properly. God help us, but unfortunately that friend is likely going to end up being one of those A**hole that end up at the highest echelon of our government and furthering the decline of this great country.
