Great way to make a handful of kids happy while absolutely crushing the spirits and embarrassing dozens of others! Believe it was either u11 or u12. Can’t imagine how those kids felt if they were going down or didn’t make a team.

How horribly run do you need to be to think that’s a good idea?!

No. Rejection is a part of life, but public rejection does not need to be. If your company is doing layoffs, do they line everyone up and publicly announce who gets to keep their job? If you don’t think that would be appropriate for adults, why do you think it would be appropriate for children?

That’s true. Another reason why the arms race to try out earlier is bad thing.

Try outs used to at or close to the end of season.

It is an “interesting way” if you are trying to retain hundreds of parents as paying customers per age group.

Ooooof. You just cant do that to 10 and 11 year old kids.

Talk about making the rest of spring awkward by telling them “you’re not good enough” in front of their current teammates. Thats gonna be a fun May and June for that group of kids and parents.

Maybe they are tired of pampered parents and culling the herd. I welcome it. Save the energy and anxiety.

I do feel that they pretty much know their top team even before tryouts begin though and it's hard to break into that group unless you showcase throughout the season

This is true. Something similar happed to my kid last year. Brought up to the top team scrimmage each day for tryouts and they kept her there for the last one, on the last day. Only to be told the next day on e-mail. Congratulations, you've been selected for the 2nd team! They selected internal club players months before tryouts. It sucked, my kid felt like crap and was confused after it happened. Ow well, back to the grind!

Can confirm. But it was limited.

New guy who is top team coach made his selections in front of others. Did so right after the top field tryout ended and everybody came over.

Only impacted a small # with 13 or 14 very happy kids and at least 2 or 3 we saw in tears or close to it who apparently weren’t selected and were being pushed off first team in process witnessed by their current teammates.

Was a shi**y thing to do.

Or it is motivation.

If that is the toughest thing a kid has to endure consider him privileged.

Some kids take more 💩 weekly from you parents than that.

It was u12. They have a new coach on top team - which is no excuse. have heard from multiple people today about this and that a handful of parents are pissed off that it was done publicly.
