The new world bank people they often do send them to public school when on rotation, But Bethesda/Potomac Moco W type schools and McLean/Vienna high rated schools.

But issue is schools are funding alot via income tax and they are not paying anything. So the World Banks shifted paying for the schools to the taxpayers.

They get a really big subsidy to rent a place in DC so they live in the best areas.

If these were actually your colleagues you wouldn’t need to ask this question here. You would know the IMF isn’t an MDB. And you would know which institutions still offer benefits, as well as how and to whom. Troll post and troll comments to get people riled up.

Americans everywhere all over the world pay US income tax. There is no escaping US income tax. Foreign nationals at these MDBs typically pay no national tax and no US tax AND have these educational benefits.

Americans working at NATO in Den Haag get an educational benefit. Citizens of NL that they work with get no educational benefit.

Same for Americans at NATO in Brussels, where Belgians get noneducational benefit.

The concept is to let children of employees who are from outside the host county attend appropriate schools so the children easily can re-integrate when they return to their home/native country.

Not at normal companies. I got offered a three year rotation in Bermuda and company gave stipend towards one bedroom basic apt, stipend based on one person added food cost, moving expenses based on one bedroom basic apt. Once a year airfare, home. I explained to boss opportunity is great but at this time had two kids and planning a third. My wife is a SAHM so she has no issue doing it but not practicable as I have to rent a bigger place and feed several people in an expensive country. He was like not our problem. A divorced guy with grown kids too spot. They also got younger singer people to do the rotation. World Bank is a scam to tax payers

These benefits changed. WB colleagues now don’t get money for private school in the U.S. Only colleagues who joined about 30 years ago had this. I think the IMF still has education benefits in the U.S.. The Bank pays for international school while posted overseas so kids can transition through different locations more easily.

And they pay zero US income tax!

I think those are old benefits … value proposition is much worse now & don’t think anyone is still getting education benefits

I think this is right. I have a friend at WB - tuition covered while posted out of "home" base/country.

Probably because it would be free for them in their home country so they are sacrificing by being in the US? They need to sweeten the pot.

My non-American colleagues here in DC get paid education benefits for their kids to attend private school and then college. Americans do not get this. WTH? This is completely discriminatory; some of these people have been here well over 20 years.

Does anyone know why this is allowed?
