Attended the Skyview Open House on Saturday and they were actually very helpful in terms of questions and answers.

The best way to think of Skyview's three STEM-focused pathways is going to be similar to the FCPS academy programs at places like Marshall, Chantilly, and Edison. It appears that they will be a neighborhood school with boundaries after year one, but they will attempt to reserve spaces each year for a small number of out-of-area kids to apply for those pathways.

I do expect, based on what they were saying, that there will be opportunities for Skyview students in those pathways to do some visits to TJ and vice-versa.

This reads to me that Skyview expands TJ's resources for Aerospace vs the other way.

Will it be better than top public schools like oakton, Langley and McLean high schools?

Not likely. Those schools don’t have anything that makes them special compared to other FCPS High Schools. The reason for the higher student achievements/school rankings is due to having higher income families and more Asian students.

Isn't the permanent boundary coming out in June and those in the boundary HAVE TO attend Skyview?

In 2027-2028 the kids in boundary will attend Skyview, but just the 9th graders.

Yes, it sounds like they didn’t gwt the enrollment numbers they wanted.

The 9th grade class is over 400 kids, they did not get alot of 10th graders, which is not surprising. We opted in so we have been going to events and my kid is in the Schoology group. They will be losing some kids to TJ.

Our family did not get this message.

They should have set the boundaries in December.

I just got this email, does anyone know anything about it? Is it more of an opportunity for Skyview kids to take advantage of TJ resources or will it work both ways? My TJ kid is a little jealous of the Skyview Aerospace pathway (as well as their facilities...).

April 28, 2026

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are reaching out to share an exciting opportunity at Skyview High School, a new FCPS school located in western Fairfax County.

Skyview students will have the unique opportunity to engage in shared Aerospace Science programming, science fairs, and peer mentoring with Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST). This alliance ensures students have unparalleled access to specialized academic experiences and resources.

If your family is interested in being part of the inaugural Skyview community, we invite you to learn more by attending an open house on Saturday, May 2, at noon. TJHSST Principal Mike Mukai will join me in sharing information about our collaboration and answering your questions. Please register to attend.

In the interim, I encourage you to visit the Skyview High School website. If you would like to learn about Skyview’s enrollment process, please view our Student Registration page or contact us at 571-720-0691.

Sincerely,

Dave Jagels
Principal
Skyview High School
