I am 155 and 5’7”. I used to weight 125 when I got married 15 years ago. 3 kids and life got in the way. Now I am 42 and probably in perimenopause. I would love to lose 15+ pounds. Can I get a doctor to subscribe a glp1? Can I just go online and get it myself?

You’re a normal weight. For your long term health at your age you need to focus on gaining strength and maintaining your mobility. Taking a GLP1 risks losing muscle and other side effects. The worst thing you can do in perimenopause is lose a lot of muscle and set yourself up to be frail when you’re elderly.

Being frail is not a risk if you're not losing too much weight. None of the people I know on GLP1s look frail and they all exercise more than ever. It's a lot easier to gain strength and be mobile when you are at a good weight. I find running a lot easier now that my BMI is lower. Nobody looking at me would see me as "frail" with a 22 BMI, which is op's goal if she wants to lose 15.

I don't know if a real doctor would have approved me or not, as I started at 145 lbs and a normal BMI. But the med spa was supportive and wonderful - not the cheapest - and after I got comfortable, I switched to an online pharmacy and it's extremely cheap.

To answer your question - yes, you can go online and get it yourself. Many online pharmacies will support you - Ro, Hers, JoinFridays, Fifty410, Willow just to name a few. Good luck! This was one of the best things I ever did for myself. Zero regrets except I should've done it sooner.

OP here - do you think you will have to be on it for the rest of your life? Do you have zero food chatter now?

I go through phases where I will eat too much/snack on my kids food and then times when I don't eat at all because I am busy.

I had 3 very large babies and it has been a struggle to lose the last of the baby weight after gaining 60+ pounds each time.

I do weight lift and work out consistently - I am probably the strongest I have ever been. I can easily carry my 60 pound child around when needed. I just hate that I weigh so much.

Yes of course. Go online and get it. I'm not familiar with your height and what you should weigh for that height, but as long as you're overweight, you can get it prescribed. Maybe fudge the number by adding 5lbs if needed.

Zero regrets. I dropped 15lbs that I couldn't lose in a decade. Despite eating healthy, working out nonstop and even starving. My current weight (right in the middle of my BMI healthy range) looks so good on me and I have so much more energy for my kids.

I'm the same height and wt as op. I gained 20 pounds in the past 3 years due to depression/changing hormones. I have not considered glps because I am healthy and have not made a consistent effort to lose the weight. I have a medium frame and hourglass shape and I am fortunate my weight is distributed evenly. My bmi is at the top end of normal. I may just accept that this is my weight and be grateful it levelled off and I can eat to satiety daily.

Go lift 30 pounds of weights. That’s a lot of weight you’ve put on over the years.

Op - agree. Should I talk with a doctor and get on glp1? I do lift and do cardio 5 days a week. I would love to be back to 125 if possible.

Lift and cardio 7 days a week and cut out snacks.

Your BMI is under 25. I don't see how insurance would cover unless you have other medical issues...I was more overweight than you at a BMI of 27 and got it on my own online through one of the main online providers.

Op here - Would you think a doctor would describe that as obese and put me on a higher level of glp1? Will my insurance cover it then?

Im a similar profile. I went to an endocrinologist and we started with: 100 grams of protein a day, strength training, metformin and HRT. After 3 years its getting harder and we are going to try a supplement that seems promising and if that doesn't work go to the lowest dose of Foundayo.

If someone wanted to lose vanity weight can they get a glp1?
