The vast majority of kids I see behaving badly are riding e-motos or mini motos and not traditional e-bikes. It sounds like I’m splitting hairs, but they’re definitely different beasts. Can a kid ride an e-bike like a jerk? Sure. Just like middle aged guys on their road bikes can, too. But the truly dangerous behavior is coming from kids on mini motos. I absolutely blame the parents.

This is very true. Unsupervised kids and E-bikes are a bad combination. It seems like the kids whose parents buy them E-bikes are least likely to make good decisions about helmets and safe riding, at least among ones I know.

I saw two of them riding around on a baseball diamond at an elementary school and tearing up the ground with their damn bikes. I went to drive up to yell at them to get the hell off, but by the time I got there they had zoomed away.

Parents PLEASE talk to your kids who ride e-bikes to school to STOP CUTTING THROUGH PEOPLE’S LAWNS AND PARKING LOTS!!!!!

At 7:45 (when I’m leaving for work), they come through. They are taking “short cuts” and trying to cut between cars. Last week, I was coming out of the apartment, and almost got ran over in the parking lot. For reference, this is a small apartment with a small parking lot. It happens again every day at 4pm. I have tried to get their attention to talk with them, but they go too fast. One day, they cut through my car and another one and scratched the door.

Parents—if you are buying e-bikes for your kids, you need to take responsibility on how to educate them to drive responsibly. I have requested law enforcement to post at this apartment to see if they can stop the activity and have purchased a small fence.

Is this happening to anyone else?
