Nope. The years between elementary and high school are short. You can judge the quality of an organization by its leadership. Business 101. Parents should know as much as possible before they spend their money on a BUSINESS that does not prioritize their kid’s experience or mental health over adult egos.

Our family has had an excellent experience with 10U Select. My DS has had a great year and we'll really miss this team. It's been a happy medium between rec and travel with solid competition--very manageable for a kid who plays multiple sports but loves baseball. My DS has made a lot of friends. He now knows kids from other teams as well which makes games even more fun.

I do think we really lucked out both coaching-wise and having a great group of families on the team. I don't know the HS coaches but the BCC Director is so nice--very approachable and responsive. Good luck OP!

Koa - great facility, paid coaches, responsive management. BABL is great -- the kids love the standings and the teams being named after minor league teams. A step up from rec but fun and professional. We didn't do Select but have heard from other families it can be uneven.

We just made the switch this season to Koa BABL and are really happy so far. Young (paid) coaches and really well organized. Pricy but not much more than BCC Select I think. Appropriate amount of competitiveness and the kids all seem to want to be there, which was important for us since a lot of the kids still in rec at 10 didn’t seem to really like baseball.

BCC Select can be a great experience for your DS or a terrible one. It all comes down to which parent coaches he winds up with - and you have no control over that unless you coach and know what you are doing. Our DS had an amazing experience in BCC for two years because of the same coaches in 10u and 11u. It is the most fun he has had in the sport. The third year was pretty lousy. He had different coaches and there was a huge drop off. Less knowledgeable, less competitive and way less fun.

Depends on your high school’s program. Some bcc selects or comparable koa house baseball will be fine but for more competitive programs your son will need to play some travel ball and do additional hitting/throwing/fielding work.

The experience in any of these leagues often comes down to who your coach is. You can have a good or bad experience with any of the organizations mentioned.

My suggestion is to read the website and reach out to the staff with specific questions.

Players tryout every year and quality of experience varies depending on your coach (who is a parent) and how the college guys evaluating your player rate your kid. Some coaches are genuinely invested/knowledgeable and others are not. There are weird politics involved in the draft as well. We did not have a great experience and moved to BABL (koa) which was better in that the evaluation was done by professional coaches and then the teams had non-parent coaches. We moved on to koa’s travel program (Waves) from there.

In my opinion, BCC Selects is the way to go. Players try out each season but you will see many familiar faces year to year.

I would love to hear more about BCC Select baseball 10U. I understand that you have to try out every year. If you make it in your first year, does that give you a better chance of making it going forward, or should we have our son try out for KOA or another league just in case he has a bad tryout? I have not loved BCC, but that is where we have been since T-Ball. I would love any insights into KOA, if people like it over BCC. Thanks in advance
