I just happened upon this - 2 years later. I was actually at that game - and remember it vividly- the coach is an incredibly seasoned lacrosse coach who is very well-respected in the sport and all throughout the east coast. My son has played for him for several years and will continue to do so if he is lucky enough to play for him in high school. My son was attacked with illegal procedures and slashing by your nephew's team. Your Breakout team was actually an older U11(AA) team, physically larger, but less experienced players. It got very dirty, grabbing jerseys, etc. The coach had to step in because the ref was not calling penalties. There are always two sides to every story. It was a very disappointing day for everyone. Learn the rules of the game before you post something like that again.

My son plays for a Bethesda Lacrosse Lightning (U-11) house team and there are indeed several teams, all with different coaches. There are also travel teams for each division: Tyker, Lightning, Midget and Junior, but they would be playing only in tournaments or travel leagues.

As OP says her nephew is 11 he could be in Lightning or Midget (U-13), but probably the latter.

That said, I do think you should report it to the Bethesda league officials. My son's coaches are fantsastic people who, I am utterly certain, would never act in such a disgraceful way. I know them quite well. Likewise, we know many of the other divisions' coaches and I can not imagione any of them acting in this way. Lacrosse is becoming a more main stream sport, less elitist and, hopefully, less the type of event where you witness this disgusting, unsportsmanly, behavior. Any one who witnessed this should call it in/report it so that that coach can be called out and made to admit to and apologize for his behavior or be forced from the league. Please.

This is a pretty public event - if OP were full of hooey, others posters would be able to call her on it. If you act the fool in public you have to expect people to talk about it!

OP, I'm not bothered by your posting here. I think it's appropriate and it's not as if you've put this person's name in your vent. However, I wonder if you also sent an official complaint to the league by email and phone call? There is really no point in merely venting. And I would think the league would want to know about this.

A decade ago I had an issue with a recreational league softball referee and sent a written complaint to the league, which took prompt appropriate action.

I don't get why the PPs are so bothered by this post. Is there only one lacrosse coach for 11 yo's in Bethesda? Here in Vienna, there are a few lacrosse teams per age group. Even if the person was identifiable, as long as what the OP wrote was true, I don't see why it's a big deal. The coach should be ashamed, not the OP.

If this were false plenty of people could jump on and state no such thing happened. Public event, public posting, can't say I am bothered by it.
