^^PP: this would give your adult child some private space where they can be as messy as they want (cough), make their own food if they choose, and run on their own schedule (if they're still up at 2 a.m., they won't wake you up).

You could buy a tiny house for your backyard for less than $10k. Costco sells them, too. When kid is done with it, it can become your project space, guest digs, or mom cave. There are some super cute tiny houses online.

Has he not been back for breaks? How was he then? My dcs are pretty good about cleaning after themselves, making their own lunches, laundry...

^im the previous poster and I did something similar - lived with my parents for a year while working a low-paying job. Still did lots of cooking and chores and socializing with peers.

Make sure they are doing a good amount of grocery shopping, food prep, cooking, and cleanup.

Super super important life skill (if they haven’t learned it already). It’s nice that they’ll have a little bit of a buffer era at home with you for maybe exploring - and occasionally messing up but figuring out! - healthy recipes.

I find these questions so confusing - why does everyone have so little faith in their kids? Or how did you raise them to be people you can't live with? I lived with my parents for a few years after college. Like when I was in high school, I did my own laundry and even helped with theirs, cooked sometimes, cleaned up after myself, did the dishes and helped with whatever needed doing. It's called being part of a family.

And the condo idea is absurd. Not everyone has that much money and with the new condo fee rules you'll be crushed in monthly payments and when you try to sell it.

Right? People here really don’t realize how wealthy they are. Just buying a condo is not a remote possibility for most people.

Why would you do laundry for them? They do their own laundry, prep and clean up from their own meals/snacks, and participate in keeping common areas clean and moving along (taking in trash bins, mail, watering plants, etc.). They pay all their own car expenses, and cell.

Create a roommate agreement and all sign it. Begin as you mean to continue.
