Wishful thinking, OP. I don't know why you're pointing to UMD. All colleges do this. They know, from years of data, how many kids will probably show up. They tend to err on the side of over-crowding.

By no means, we really like UMD but kid was denied. We are wondering if there could still be a chance if the other students don't take the offer.

Thank you, I still have the question; what do they do if there are not enough students taking theses spots as UMD doesn't have a waitlist. Do they look into denied applicants who had good applications but there was no space for them?

No, when any college send out offers, they already take yield rate into consideration. That’s what waiting list for.

They would reverse a rejection only if they burn through the whole waitlist and burn through bumping Spring/ Freshman Connect admits to Fall and still need more butts in seats.

They have plenty of students to fill their slots. Some years they have had housing shortages when the yield was better than expected. I think with the economy as it is, more kids will choose UMD.

Of our private school, 10 kids were accepted at UMD; only 1 will attend, the others going to Ivies or schools like Stanford, U Chicago, Brown, Duke, etc. Will UMD go down on their list to fill their spaces or they have enough people from OOS and other counties that are not MoCo?
