Depends but not necessarily.

I did send DVDs and books to entertain during the recovery when you’re stuck in bed and bored.

My mom, dad's cousins and local friends, and he's going to have the nurse come as well if needed. My brother is going to visit but just the following weekend as normal (he's about two hours away). It's prostate surgery op.

Is this OP?

No, I would not go.

My dad had surgery on each eye a couple months apart and lives across the country. I offered to go. He declined. No big deal.

No not prostate surgery. Triple bypass- I would fly in.

Routine prostate surgery? You don't need to be there. Cancer? Try to visit.

Agreed, maybe visit after your brother. But many men, especially older men, are sensitive about prostate surgery.

I would just make sure you stay in contact, and as soon as your father is up to it, talk to him on the phone as much as possible.

Are other family members there?

If they don't need help and it's not life threatening, then I would just stay in contact with the family members who are there. Then once they are at home (assuming the kind of surgery that doesn't have a long stay) I'd send flowers or a basket.

Not if they don't need the help, unless it's a serious surgery.

Especially if you live in different countries, do you go when a parent has surgery? Assuming your parent is not alone and does not need any help.
