I always send a flower arrangement after I stay with friends. I definitely don't want knickknacks.

Dinner- yes and you could also send a flower arrangement to get there the day before you do (with vase).

Or buy at the airport. They often have some niceish things.

No. Do not arrive empty-handed. Get fancy chocolates and stuff them in your carryon.

Yep! When friends come to visit, I want to see them. I want your time not a physical item.

I will be staying with friends for 4-5 days. We are all retired, and have plenty of $. I will be traveling with just a carryon.

I am torn about arriving empty handed, but most hostess gifts (wine? Flowers?) would not fit in my suitcase. I could run out and buy something today , but I have a feeling they don’t really need/want little treats or knickknacks. Is it sufficient for me to just treat them to dinner while I am there?
