I’ll give a different perspective: take the job but have your child really evaluate both and see if they can last at least 1-1.5 years. I was doing finance my sophomore and junior summer and signed the full time offer, but I detested it and quit to take a break and look for marketing jobs.

For my pivot, I knew I need a marketing leadership development program at a big firm or a startup fellowship. If I stayed at my firm, I wouldn’t have had time to build a portfolio and connect with people. I liked marketing but I also liked angel investing and wanted to do the latter versus the former since I was told it’s easier to start in finance then move later.

When it comes down to both options, try to have them think about their long term path. I had the savings to make a move but it’s not feasible for everyone.

I would personally take the non-profit job because sales jobs can be cut quickly if you don’t make quota. But if your kid is a go getter and less risk averse, the sales job works for now too. They can keep applying or wait 6 months-1 year before starting a new job search.

Definitely accept one of the offers. And keep interviewing. Cannot say enough that the market for new grads and age 40+ is nothing like what we've seen before.

Graduating dc got to final rounds in several companies. Dc accepted offer in fall that was later rescinded after hiring freeze, so had to restart search. Again got to some final rounds, a couple things pending, but only actual offers on table are for a nonprofit and for a sales position. Dc not interested in either but better to accept anything? I just hear stories of ‘25 grads still looking …
