Well if the economy isn't important for you, then that makes sense. Otherwise most people realize that AIPAC is a contributing reason for endless wars in the Middle East including Iraq.

Mine top issue is tribalism. I want someone who puts people over party. I’m tired over people sayinf we can’t do or talk about x that is right for people but will help the other team then we must oppose it.

If the candidate votes almost exclusively along party lines (as most do), then they are dubious and need to be watched closely. And I don’t want the hear but Trump. Many of the people in office pre-dated trump or at least Trump 2.0. I want people who are honestly working for us not a party.

I’m op and pp. Are there any politicians these days who have lunch or dinner or otherwise socialize with someone from the opposite party any more? If I recall correctly, Fetterman got roasted for doing this (can’t remember if there was more to the story).

For me, I want to see more people in Congress doing this. Maybe they do but it’s kept quiet these days. We should be working together not apart.

Fetterman’s problem is that he doesn’t socialize with anyone because he can’t spend any time on the floor. He just votes thumbs up or down from the hallway.

Mark Carney. Of course he's Canadian, so we may have to invade Canada to get him.

What about Beshear? He seems more focused on governing and dealing with actual problems and is astute in not getting entangled in the irrelevant diversions of the culture wars.

Buttigieg did a good job both as mayor and secretary. Level headed.

Talarico and Slotkin are interesting as well.

Integrity, common sense, opposition to the the extremes of both parties, commitment to American institutions and security key for me.

Want someone who will re-center the center.

This thread is NOT about who Democrats or Republicans prefer. This is different than the other thread. The major parties run candidates who appeal to their base.

I contend that they vote to moderate the extremes of the last administration, not because they believe in the candidates anymore or are giving the candidate a mandate.

2028 will be about ‘not Trump’ not because people will embrace the democratic party’s platform. The mandate the candidate will have is don’t be an erratic jerk. It won’t be about whatever fringe issue the candidate will likely prioritize.

Filtering out Dem and GOP supporters’ preferences out of the equation, who would independents pick and why? How do they / tou as independents view that person versus a Dem/GOP supporter?
