We have a company open and close the pool, and a different company that services our auto-cover once a season when we open.

We do the weekly maintenance ourselves, but you can hire that out. Water testing weekly & adjusting chemicals as needed, plus vacuuming, cleaning out the skimmer baskets, etc.

I test the water at least once or twice a week (more often toward the start of the season, when things are still settling). DH runs our pool robot on the weekends and cleans out the filter as needed. I worked for a pool maintenance company when I was a teenager, so I have a good handle on the chemical side and it's easy for me to stay on top of things.

Last year was our first summer with our saltwater pool. The builder got it started but we maintained it weekly which was a lot easier than I remember when I managed pools in high school.

We bought a solar powered robot skimmer (Betta) that stayed in the pool 24/7 unless we were swimming. It really helped with the leaves. We also have a robot vacuum that we would toss in a few times a week. Aside from checking the skimmers and adding acid once a week it was really very easy.

We did pay a service to close the pool and they're opening it next week to get it up and running for us.

We did weekly the first year we had our pool and switched to biweekly after that.

Saltwater pools are pretty straightforward to maintain. The only reason we keep our service is I don't like having to store strong chemicals that can react with each other around the house.

It depends on if you have a cover (and use it) and how often you swim. If you use it a lot (typical in first year), then every week may be good. If you use it less often, every 2 weeks is fine.

We had our Polaris pool cleaner break after a few years. It was cheaper and less hassle to just have the pool company vacuum it every time they came by. Then you dont' have teh Polaris sitting in the pool all the time either.

We just hire a service to do the open and close. The regular maintenance on a saltwater pool is very easy. I test it once a week and make whatever adjustments are needed. I skim it a good deal in the early season when lots of stuff is falling into it, but probably once a week or less during the summer.

We moved to a house with a salt water pool and the first year, we hired a service to do bi-weekly maintenance and asked them to show us how it all worked. The local pool store was very helpful too.

The next couple years we had the service open and close the pool for the season, but not do anything else. And now we open it ourselves but have them close and winterize.
