OP, to tell the truth, prom traditions are entirely overrated and ridiculous. If he's a true friend, he'll text his friend pics of the flowers and ask for her preference (maybe she wants a certain color to match her outfit).
Flowers have been on the wrist like a bracelet since the 80's.
