If your skin is that sensitive, don't use anything on your off nights while you adjust.

Do you alternate nights between these two?

OP here. This is what I use, and I also like it but my skin still can’t handle it more than every other night, every time I bump to more than 3x/week my skin gets very irritated/burning.

La mer? bader? Sturm? Tatcha water cream? Something moisturizing to combat the dryness? These are guesses by the way. I haven’t used tret as I’ve used the above three and haven’t felt like I needed tret yet. (Am 34 if that helps).

NP: how long did it take to see results? How long were you first using tret by itself? I started using tret 4 months ago and see no difference. In the first month, I was alternating with Azelaic acid but then I read it takes up to a year to see results with that, and figured I’d give tret a chance first.

This. I can't tolerate tretinoin even when sandwiched now that my skin has become dry in menopause. Tazarotene has been much better for me the past few years.

Alternate with regular moisturizer to give your skin a break while it's adjusting. Otherwise, you'll harm your skin barrier.

Do you really need to put it on every night to get the benefits?

If yes, I'd say alternate it with something like the Olay everyday retinol in the purple jar. It's a very low dose retinol so that your skin has a chance to rest.

I’m mid 50s and have started using tretinoin. My skin only seems to be able to handle it every other night (I’ve tried lowering the dose and sandwiching it but as soon as I bump to nightly I start to get very red, flaky irritated skin).

My question is what can I use on the nights I do not use the trentinoin- ideally a product that is gentler but provides the same type of benefits.
