Airport parties are more about silly fun, going around in a group asking for directions to gate "so and so", then everyone runs away, etc. But LTRs have resulted. It really just depends.

I'd do OLD and tell everyone you know you're looking instead of speed dating. The men tend to be a little socially inept.

It's been years, but the speed dating event I attended was comical. Not a man I would be willing to date in the whole bunch.

Get over it. Scammers are everywhere, including on dating apps. Train yourself to recognize the losers and block them. You need to buy the Burn The Haystack book and take the lessons to heart.

There are some FWB mixers or speed dating with those intense and they work well for me. Not good for long term dating.

OP here thanks for the feedback. Somehow I think OLD attracts scammers but I get the point of being able to screen out people that are not a match. My last relationship we met due to similar work and before that college, online apps seems so foreign but may try it.

It's been awhile, but I did a Zoom speed dating event sometime in the first six weeks of the pandemic.

Everyone I spoke with was normal and pleasant, but, unlike with the apps, you can't screen for distance. I lived in NW DC and once I matched with someone in Sterling or Gaithersburg, I'd just have a pleasant conversation and run out the clock.

As awful as apps are, could they possibly be worse than having to show up at a singles mixer and try to attract a man you know nothing about?!?! Don't you want to know whether the person you're interested in is married/separated? Has kids or not? Is a MAGA weirdo? For all of their faults, the apps let you screen for more than just looks and a nice outfit/grooming.

I am 45F and don’t want to try OLD someone suggested attending a singles event in person.Any recommendations? Are there some that are better than others? All I’m finding are zoom events which I think defeats the purpose. Thanks
