I wouldn't. Mine is about the same size as yours and I think it's plenty big for daily wear. I am lawyer in a non-profit/government adjacent industry and it would look pretty ostentatious compared to peers.

My two best friends have huge rings - one is a family diamond, one got a way later start. They are very pretty but I don't think I'd want something that big for daily life. One never wears hers and the other does only to her pretty big job in NYC.

I actually think the classiest look if you want an upgrade is a thick eternity band with big diamonds. I'd love that for a RHR, but again, not spending the money.

This is a bizarre reason to upgrade. Everyone at work knows your dh makes money and will likely assume based on your age he bought the ring when you all were just starting out.

It would be different if you were just now getting engaged and your husband gave you a tiny diamond.

No. Mine is basically a diamond chip. Important family ring so it will always stay on my finger. Added a diamond band for our 5th. One look at my finger and it's clear I did not marry for $$. Just celebrated our 30th. Wouldn't trade the ring or the guy.

Maybe if you keep your original ring, some people will think better of you. I always think that polished women with small diamonds are displaying the symbol of marriage in keeping with the meaning of the gift. Even before the lab diamonds came out, there was definitely a stereotypical big diamond wearer in my environment. And that's the most neutral thing I can say.

Nope. I have a small engagement ring because my husband and I were just out of school when we got engaged. It's the ring he carefully picked out and saved for and I wouldn't exchange it for anything. I prefer smaller stones for daily wear anyway as larger stuff can snag.

I ended up getting an anniversary ring that I wear on my left hand. So I still have my sentimental, smaller ring from when we got engaged at 22 (!!) but also a much larger and more elaborate ring on the left hand.

I did. We got engaged at 20, my ring was 1/3 ct. Upgraded it to 1.5 ct lab diamond for a few thousand dollars for our 15th anniversary. I love it, no regrets. It isn’t gaudy, it’s the same style as the original ring, and it is a nice size on my hand.

No. I added a diamond band but have no interest in changing the solitaire or the wedding band.

I have had my engagement ring for 16 years. Well before the lab diamond craze. It’s a 1.25 carat diamond with a 1 carat eternity band. I wear it with two more eternity bands. We got it when we were young and poor (26 and no real job).

Now with all of the lab diamonds and the large rings I sort of want to upgrade my engagement ring. But I wonder if that is tacky to replace the mined diamond with a larger lab grown diamond. Thoughts?
