Normally the bus takes the kids for pictures if the pictures are far away like the Lincoln Memorial. If we can make it to pictures, we go and take pictures. Then they go out to eat and go to a party. We don't see them after the pictures.

DS needs to ask the host friend if parents are invited for pictures.

I would go and then leave after a couple minutes if no other parents are there.

But if he doesn't want you to go, I'd respect that.

NP. I hosted once and all the parents came, including parents of random boys and it was so nice. I enjoyed chatting and meeting new people, it was very fun!

In our circles, everyone goes, whether you know the parent or not. It feels like that parent has “something better to do” if they don’t show up.

Kids say they don't want you there and mean it at the time but it's not on their mind at all when the event is happening and you're there just among the many other parents. Don't stand out. This is not a social event to make an impression or stand out in any way. This is their turf

Yes, I know two moms fairly well. One mom didn’t come to our house last homecoming. The other did. I will try to piggy back off her. I know she will want to go.

I think if the hosts had wanted parents there, they'd have mentioned that. Let the kids have their prom. They take photos and he can share with you. It's HIS event. It'll be embarrassing for you to just barge in, you had your prom.

It’s both normal to show up do pictures and leave or as another mom to send you pictures and not go.

I think it’s appropriate! It’s the norm.

Do whatever he wants. It’s just junior prom.

My junior son is going to prom with a group of 20+ kids. Some kids have dates. Others are going solo. There will be a party bus or limo TBD.

I don’t know the host family (girl) and DS doesn’t know her well either.

Is it appropriate for me to not go?

He is my oldest and I want to go. We have hosted boys in past for homecoming. Some parents came for pictures, not all parents.
