Really depends on how much money you have.

This. This. This. Not all schools are equally good for everything. There is a different and higher value proposition to going to BU to study biomedical engineering, journalism/communication, or business than paying that fee to join the college of general studies or history.

As a Boston area employer I honestly wouldn’t differentiate between UMass and BU. Both are good schools and we’d hire from either. I’m sure that each has certain strong departments. For example, Umass’s Eisenberg undergraduate B school is excellent. If your child may go on to graduate school, keeping some powder dry at UMass might be a good idea. And don’t forget that transferring after a year or 2 always remains an option.

Everyone’s financial situation is different. And on the other side of the scale, what everyone gets out of it is different. No one can answer that question in the abstract. Fwiw, my kid hasn’t had any adjuncts. He’s had amazing professors. It’s an easy place to get involved and be engaged. And living in Boston is fab. But we can afford it and it’s giving him what he and we wanted out of his college experience so far. ymmv.

I went there and didn't think so. It was mostly bad adjunct teachers. Housing was an issue too.

+ too poor to look at $100,000 as a vast sum...

100,000 for BU seems incredibly high. For those with recent experience, did it deliver?

Comparing it to U Mass Amherst where DS received merit money. Total cost there would be under 40,000.

Yes, he will most likely have to go to grad school as well.
