I would definitely email teacher for help. Also help your DD looks nicer, get her to learn one thing to very good level to build her self confidence.

Tell her to ignore them ignore them ignore them. At the same time you need to tell the teacher which student is name calling her in class. She might not catch it, she might maybe she’ll do a lesson on being nice.

If three people said it, sounds like a school culture thing and should be addressed by the school. The whole grade (at least) needs a reminder about bullying.

Some will not like this. But these instances is what the bullying and harassment form is for. I would tell your kid to tell the other kids to knock it off. And any second instance from a kid and you fill out the form and send it in. It has a checkbox for just such things. 9 is plenty old to know how to behave and what not to say to other kids.
Sometimes it starts like this with some kids and processes to them becoming bigger bullies who pick on and intimidate kids. Happened to my kid an we reported it when parents were not taking action.

Start with the teacher and principal. If she responds and they like the other kids and not her, she will be the one in trouble.

OP here. I swear this is not a troll post. It has been a horrible week for this kid.

My advice is for her to say something like "That's such a mean thing to say" or "Don't talk to me like that" and walk away. If the "friend" she is having trouble with keeps doing things like this, I think she should tell the teacher or I may say something to his parents.

DH has advised her to insult them back. While probably more satisfying, I think that only serves to escalate.

My poor DD9 has had three separate kids call in ugly in the last week. One was a sort of random comment by peer I know acts out for attention, one was a slightly older kid on the bus, and the other was a "friend" she has been having some issues with lately. She has just had braces put on and is feeling very self-conscious.

How would you advise her to respond if this happens again? DH and I have very different views on this.
