Arizona is like a furnace for half of the year. I grew up there and would never go back, nor would my friends who had an out as I did. It is referred to as the brain drain, and it exists because educated people with options do not choose to live in a 120-degree furnace with no change in seasons. The air is so dry that your skin will age 2x.

May be a low living cost country where healthcare and elderly caregivers aren't too expensive.

Prefer tropics but not a priority, airport is but probably for a decade, wouldn't matter as much after 70.

Adult kids are too early in life to know where would they settle. Haven't lived near siblings or DH's siblings in 40 years so that's not a significant factor. Friends circle is nice but living as poor among UMC circle wouldn't be easy. One big preference is to be in a state where one can choose euthanasia if things become unbearable.

Pennsylvania has some tax advantages for retirees (no tax on pensions, social security, 401ks for age 60 and up, plus tax breaks on rent or property taxes for people over 65) and as long as you are near one of the major cities, very good healthcare.

It's one of the better options if you aren't instructed in the Sunbelt. Delaware also has some advantages. But it depends on your preferences for weather and culture.

Do you want good healthcare or only cheap healthcare?

Do you like oceans, mountains, city life?
Do you like the heat or do you want a little winter?
Do you want to be near a decent airport?

If you have Medicare + good health coverage for the gap, you'll be fine for the most part. Anywhere with access to good healthcare. The expense challenge is if you develop caretaker needs from dementia or alzheimers. And that's expensive anywhere you go.

Op, it's good to collect this info but other things will need to be considered. Access to family (you?), some familiarity. What is their condition?
