I disagree with others. Allowing her to get a job is allowing her to win. She must go to school. How were her grades in school? Have you talked to the counselor yet? What is her plan in life? Is the father in the picture?

Stop making her breakfast, first of all. She's 16 - plenty old enough to make her own. It aint like she's busy.

I would tell her that her options are to see a therapist and either go to school or get a full time job. She would be responsible for feeding herself, doing her laundry, keeping her room picked up, etc. Obviously no internet other than for job hunting.

Her school has likely seen this before. Talk to them for guidance.

OP, get yourself a therapist to help you figure out how to help your daughter. Also get in touch with the school and let them know what is going on.

My daughter refuses to see a therapist. She doesn’t sleep all night, she wakes up to eat and then sleeps till 12pm-1pm, and goes to bed at 11 or 12. She doesn’t go out because she doesn’t have many freinds.

This was me. My mom (single) told me I either had to go to school or to work or move out. So I worked a bs job for a while then started at the community college on my own volition. Transferred and eventually Went all the way through a masters degree.

For me the bs job was the trick.

I just heard that Mark Cuban did the same thing- dropped out at 16

Does her school have a school refusal team? Our high school does and they work with the kids to figure out what's going on and how to get them back to school.

My 16 year old daughter is refusing to attend school. She will not get up or get ready in the mornings and simply does not go. She says she does not have any issues with school and just wants to stay home. She currently has no access to devices or the internet; instead, she stays home, asks for her breakfast to be made in the morning, goes back to sleep, and does whatever she can. What can I do to address this situation?
