I think you are exaggerating a bit. I've been buying the same spendy wool specialty brand bras/underwear for almost 10 years now and they have only increased their prices by $3 since the tariffs. Same for where I source my European linen dresses and blouses.

Khakis at J.Crew are around $60. Nothing is ever “full price” there.

Yes, it's almost as if brands now market themselves very high to seem more exclusive and desirable...and maybe it is working? I am noticing the same thing with perfumes which used to be $100-200 and can now go up to $500+.

All the teen/young people brands are now $$$$. A shirt is $40 at H&M. I got my college ds to finally go look at TJ Maxx and he's now taking his friends there.

agree with you OP.

was recently looking for a nice dress for DS's upcoming first communion. everything i looked at was nearly $300, ugly AF and/or made of plastic. (jcrew, anthro, banana, reformation, ann taylor) it was a frustrating shopping experience

makes me want to not shop anymore. maybe only just thrift/consignment

Brand is no guarantee of quality in products aimed at let's say $300 and under. Brands are hoping just to get the product to last long enough that you're not mad at them.

well duh. I'm not paying these prices. Just wondering if others have noticed.

I need to buy my teen a sports bra as hers are falling apart. She likes a style from Aerie.
I looked back in my email at my order from Sept 2024 and I paid $13 on sale. Regular price at that point (it's in the emailed receipt) was $30.
Right now the same bra is $54.95.
For an aerie bra.

Just looked at Free People. Regular cotton slip dress that my older daughter likes is $158. It's cotton and is 2 rectangles with straps.
Yes, I know Free People is expensive (I've had teen girls for 5+ yrs). But $158 used to be the price point for a party-type dress.

Went to Jcrew Factory recently. Khakis are $128 (granted, the often have sales but $128 as the starting point?).

Boden is insanely more than they used to be--that must be tarifs. One pieced tank swimsuits are $160. Dresses are ALL $190-330. Sweaters are $150-350. A basic cardigan is $220.
