Depends on high school. At some, a 3.88 unweighted is top10%, competitive for ivy. These are usually privates. At many other schools 3.88 uw is below the top 25% and out of range for uva, WM, Vt in state, zero chance at T10/ivy

That’s not a huge difference in goa or test score. It could go either way for each.

i say public colleges will go for A student and more selective private collages go for B student - but all within the context of your school.

Look up CDS. For Applicant B, look for colleges list rigor as "very important", test score as "important".

Depends on your hs. At DD’s, students with as low as a 3.6 get into ivu

Depends on your high school. It's true that elite colleges consider applicants in the most rigorous classes.
But do they consider your high school's high rigor courses as high rigor? If not, then not helpful.
